    Starcraft was announced at Spring ECTS 1996, one month earlier, but nobody noticed, because nearly nobody was there...

    It was announced at E3 1995 and shown at
    Winter CES in January 1996
    Spring ECTS in April and finally
    E3 in May.

    So E3 was NOT the first time it was shown.
    Also the claymation story is annoying. They never even started to develop that concept, they only had the idea during one discussion.
